Ernest is a drifter in his mid-twenties. He was raised by his father in a quiet, West Virginia town slightly more affluent than the coal towns surrounding. His childhood passed by mostly uneventful until his teen years, when he and his father were constantly butting heads. Ernest's interest in religion took hold of him then, out of a child's natural response to separate his identity from that of his father, who was atheistic, bitter, and heart-broken after the boy's (wolf) mother disappeared.

Ernest was smart, quick, charming, and downright likable, except for that quirk of personality that turned him into a devout (fill in the blank) for a few weeks to a few months, when the novelty wore off, and he would go back to searching for 'his truth,' invariably finding another sooner than later. When one took his fancy, it was It, the One, and Ernest could get downright scary in his fervor to spread the message and convert others to The Way, many of whom agreed, and stayed on long after Ernest was on to the next. After a few semesters of college, where he concentrated on Comparative Religion, he set off on his own walkabout. He danced with Wiccans, honored his ancestors with Buddhists, sought to clean himself through Scientology, performed rituals with Qabalists, evangelized with Christians, upheld the laws of Orthodox Judaism, and most recently, learned of the land and Spirit from the Hopi. And this is just a sample of his adventures on the road to California.

Dissatisfied youths found his strong, calm, uncompromising presence and ideals attractive and asked to join his spirit quest. Soon, his van had become a bustling, mobile hippie commune of about a dozen, and he found himself the object of their adoration. Ernest knew he shouldn't, but the attention stroked his ego, and he let this state of affairs continue for quite some time, until, of course, he became bored with himself as messiah and told his flock to disperse. They did not take the news well, and one of their number rose up, demanding Ernest be sacrificed, so that he may ascend to the spirit world and see the truth of who he was for himself, and of course, then he would return to guide the Church.

He barely escaped with his life. Also, his van, now hippy-free. He's come to Sacramento to lay low for a while, though his magnetic personality dooms his attempt at anonymity to failure. People will find him and seek to be in the enlightened young man's presence once again, and word will get out, back to the Church...

but not before he turns into a badass werewolf, yeeeha!
