Eugene grew up in southern Maryland, and was always something of a non-conformist. Instead of football or baseball, he took up fencing (and achieved a degree of success in that field, winning quite a few medals in competitions). As a teenager, he fell into the goth subculture of the ‘80’s and became obsessed with death. His parents had hoped that he would grow out of it, but when he announced that he wanted to pursue a career as a mortician, they resigned themselves to the fact that at least their oddball son would make a decent living out of his quirks. Only a few years after he started working, however, Eugene caught the eye of a Burakumin Nosferatu looking to build a power base in the area around DC. After being embraced, Eugene was more or less forced to work for his Burakumin sire, helping him take corpses and infiltrate funeral homes in the Capital area. Eugene learned fast in this time-how to use his powers, how to pull off dangerous operations, and how to survive as a vampire. His sire worked him hard-but, as an elder monster from East Asia was entranced with the American ideals of individualism and freedom, and he released his young one from his service relatively early. Eugene decided to move, to better protect his friends and family from other vampires and to cut off contact with them by going to the West Coast to make a new beginning. He had hoped for LA, but his master’s contacts saw fit to send him to Sacramento instead, hooking him up with a night-job at a funeral home.
Eugene is still fascinated by death, particularly now that he knows that it's much more complex than science would seem to have us believe. His interest is knowledge-occult knowledge, about his condition and the condition of death for mortals.
