Maximiliano “Max” Salazar was born to an upper middleclass Mexican-American family, in Southern California. During the early teens he discovered his parents had already decided which path he should take, as the only heir to a carwash empire. Maybe it made him a rebel, or he was born one and it just ignited the spark. With high school came the drugs, friends his parents despised and a criminal record of petty crime and vandalism. By the time he graduated, mama and daddy had already given up, and he became a drifter, and a well known face among street people.

After becoming a wanderer he ended up near Sacramento. He had decided it would be interesting to live like that in that new city, for a while, and his panhandling skills generated money enough to buy some buzz n’ smokes n’ pot.

One night, walking alone near Roseville, this attractive indie girl driving a black el camino offered him a ride. He recovered conscience later, feeling strange, almost like sick, inside an old warehouse, with a dead teen girl near him. The el camino girl explained what he needed to know about being “one of them”, and said farewell. Then he made to Sacramento, and became one of the wretched neophytes surviving the streets.

That’s not that different now… he thinks. It’s about survival and urban exploration. He always loved the streets, but now he thinks carving his turf is a good idea, his first goal indeed, since he had no one during breathing days, except for rebelling against mother and father. Now he’s dead, and it means nothing to rebel against parents he’ll never see again.
