Mr. Bates has, and always will, serve the freehold first and foremost even if it comes before his Court, his choice will always be to do the bidding of the current ruler. He does this as a form of stability to a mind that has experienced the worst that a Keeper can do to belittle and break a stolen mortal. His nightmares are still with him, the endless nights and days of cleaning the bloody rooms of his psychotic Keeper who had a certain level of bloodlust that would keep Freddy Krueger content. Bates would have to observe in close detail, holding a silver tray with numerous sharp and spiky implements on hand for his Keeper and then clean away whatever was left. When he escaped Arcadia, he found himself in Sacramento and immediately made himself available for service, ignoring the gnawing dreams that tore his mind apart. Practising the arts of oneiroscopy, Bates keeps the worst of the poison away but there are moments he really wish to give in to some of his nightmares to see what awaits.
