Regina
From Edge of Darkness Wiki
Appearance
Mask
Regina appears to be in her mid twenties, with blond hair that is so pale it is nearly white and flowers tucked behind her ears. She is slightly taller than average at 5' 7" with light colored skin. Her eyes are bright blue, which she accents with dark eyeshadow and plenty of mascara. She dresses in the gothic style, the dark and ornate dresses appealing to her nature. She absolutely loves boots with heels, even wearing them on her long work shifts when it would be more sensible to wear flats.
Mien
Regina's hair becomes white with thin, pale green, flowering vines woven throughout. Her nails become sharp thorns that she normally attempts to keep filed down. Her skin remains pale, but patterns can be seen, as if a layer of petals lays just under her skin.
History
Born 1960, she was the youngest daughter of a middle class family, with two older brothers and an older sister. Being the youngest, she was spoiled and often times got away with things her older siblings did not. Her family owned a fashion boutique that was moderately popular, and while Regina had interest in fashion, she had little interest in helping at in the store. She played with the fabrics and clothing as a child, amusing herself while her parents and eldest sister worked. Her two older brothers went into other fields. One pursued veterinary medicine while the other became a cop.
When she reached teenage years, her biggest interest was boys. Despite her older brothers' best intentions and watchful eyes, she snuck out of the house multiple times to meet her beau of the moment. She experienced her first kiss at the age of 13, and had her heart broken the first time when she was 16. By 17 she was in love again, despite her family's disapproval of her beau, who was a hippy and war-protestor. It was one night, when she was sneaking out to meet her beau, that the Fae Lord took her.
Durance
Her keeper was a Fae Lord momentarily interested in human poetry and emotions, as it was a passing fad in his group. He took Regina, with her swirl of powerful teenage emotions, and turned her into something he believed the flowery poetry described. He kept her inside out of the sun and applied lotions that made her feel as if her skin was on fire while making her skin as soft as flower petals. Fragrant oils went into her hair that stung her eyes and leeched the hair's color away, but her hair became soft as silk. He tattooed her lips a deep red, the pain from the procedure excruciating, but he was pleased with the color afterward . He did not like the color of her eyes, so he replaced them with blue ones from one of his other slaves without giving the unwilling donor her eyes. She always did feel bad for being the cause of the other going blind, even though she'd had no choice in the matter.
Regina was his lover and companion/entertainer, lavished with too bright, often painful attention when she did well, and punished severely when she did not please him. She walked a delicate line, trying to give him what he wanted without drawing too much attention to herself. She learned the poetry that amused him, and recited it for him at his whim. She danced for him when he asked, and afterward he would sometimes shower her with the flowers that he likened her to and shaped her from. Those flowers became a part of her, embedding themselves in her hair and skin. It was those rare occasions that he praised her that she lived for, her past life forgotten. She didn't remember her family, only his face and voice. He was her entire world, and she both loved and feared him.
In time the fad passed, and the Fae Lord turned his attention to other things. Her heart broke at first, her mind unable to grasp life without her keeper. She was pushed to the side, sent out to tend to the flowers in the garden that he had once liked her to and showered her with. For a while she did as she was told, not knowing what else to do. Her fingernails became thorns, sharp enough for her to easily dig out weeds from among the many exotic flowers and defend herself from the sometimes living plants attacks.
Flowering vines wove themselves through her hair, using her as they would a trellis. It always pained her to remove them from her hair, until one day she could no longer remove them. Instead, she had to cut the vines, leaving them in her hair. Strangely enough, they continued to wind about her and flower until they became a part of her hair, the vines thinning and paling in color to attempt to match. At night she covered herself with the petals and leaves the flowers had shed throughout the day, using them to try and keep warm.
Escape
One day, while she was tending to the flowers, she saw a flash of something out of the corner of her eye. It was two people kissing, and as she stood there, watching, she began to remember. Ghostlike memories of her family called to her, but it was the memory of her first kiss that filled her with the true desire to go home. It was the only thing she could remember clearly. She waited until her Fae Lord was fully distracted with his newest fad, and it was then she made her escape. She ran long and hard, the sounds of people chasing her causing her to run even faster. Eventually she ended up outside the same building she had experienced her first kiss. She could not remember what the building had once been, but it was now a gothic style nightclub.
It wasn't long until she realized that the world was different from the one she had left. Buildings had changed, strange looking cars filled the streets, and the styles of dress were completely different from what little she could remember. She found her way back to her old home, but different people lived there. Her family had moved. It wasn't until she made her way to her family's old clothing boutique that she realized just how much time had passed since she had vanished. Her older sister ran the shop with two children, her hair just beginning to turn gray.
Regina realized that she could not return to her family, so she sought out a new life. Without an identity to fall back on, she found a criminal with the skills she needed. Using her looks and skills she had learned amongst the fae, she seduced him. Regina stayed with him, learning to forge identification documents. Once she obtained proper identification and had enough money built up, she went out on her own. When a job opened up for a bartender in the gothic nightclub, she jumped at the chance to be close to the memory that had helped pull her out of Arcadia.
She works most nights at the club, serving drinks and flirting with the men who hang around the bar to chat. On the side she still forges documents, if the mood strikes her and the price or reason is right. She is more than happy the help follow changelings construct a new identity if their old one is no longer good.
