In the middle of East Portal Park a mysterious sinkhole opened, prompting the curiosity of nearby mages. It was then discovered that someone--or something!--might be inside.[1]
Summary
A large number of emergency vehicles and police gathered around an enormous sinkhole that had opened in the park. Gallows and Gideon, who happened to be walking by separately, both became curious and attempt to investigate. Gideon attempted to fool Officer Ambrose, one of the policemen at the scene, and while he was not able to successfully imitate a police officer, he and Gallows were allowed limited access. Kite and Rellim arrived soon after. Kite was the first to notice some sort of Mind effect coming from the hole, causing people to forget that they heard the screams of a young girl inside--a girl whose existence was confirmed with Rellim's Postcognition and Gallows's life magic. While at first the mind magic affected all of the mages save Kite, they were able to overcome it and realize how the Sleepers around them were being affected.
Deciding that they could not leave the girl in danger, even though it could potentially be a trap, Gallows and Kite made their way into the hole using a fire hose, while Gideon and Rellim provided a distraction.
Kite and Gallows's discoveries in the hole were continued in the thread What Lies Beneath.
For their part in the distraction, Rellim and Gideon were each taken to their own separate interrogation after brawling with the police.
