There is no doubt, the man is a Ferret. A black one with flecks of silver strands heavily dusting his shoulders, tail, and back. He is long, lanky and graceful. To look at him you'd think he out not be able to stand straight. Without the Mask his musky smell comes full on. Yui thinks it best to hide his Odor under Aqua-Velva. The result is just bearable to be around.

For as long as you see and hear him, each move he makes seems to jingle a strand of tiny bells. Each note a prick of chill on the skin, Each tune a dusting of snow on the mind.

Biography

Before

Cory had always been a good kid. He was a loving Brother to his two younger sisters and a help to his mother as much as possible. Why fate twisted his particular thread is anyone's guess. Cory was quick and agile youth, a force of nature on the soccer field. He was promising. Maybe that is why The Cage Bringer choose him.

Cory sat crouched in the bushes, his youngest sister calling his name. He laughed to himself at how cute she was and wondered if he should spoil the game and leap out for her to find, or remain hiding longer.

"She is darling indeed' Replied a voice by Cory's shoulder." Cory screamed and crawled away from the sudden intruder. Seeing IT. Cory almost loses his mind. It(there is no better way to describe it) sat there a mass of fur and teeth. It watched Cory with amusement. "I'll take her I think. I would enjoy a pretty thing."

"No!" was all Cory could summon to say.

"No? You don;t want me to take the sweet thing there. Well, I have to take something. I guess I'll take you instead."

And that was how it happened. Cory was then pulled deeper into the bushes , dragged through an endless sea of bramble thorns that ripped and teared his skin.

During

When he awoke. He was in a vast cage. Around him were thousands of others. Soon Cory learned just how dear the ability to hide really was. In that cage there was no cover. Every waking second he wished to be to go unseen by his Keeper. He was a pet locked in a private zoo.

Overtime he became that Pet. His dexterity becoming wild and untamed. Desperate to be free. The fae that was Cory began to pray. It is well understood that all things in Arcadia are bound by promises and agreements. Cory forged a promise then. He would ever be wild and free if only the wind and wild helped him get there. And to his satisfaction, the Wild accepted. Though his chances were small, Fate smiled on it's Ferret.

And the Cage Bringer raged. For so long this ferret fae was locked up and unable to run. Now he could all but fly. He fled with the wind at his back, the hedge growth hurried his escape, his feet left no prints and his scent shifted with infinite possibilities. Ahead was the Sun beckoning Yui to return home.

It would have been joyous, if not for the Sorrow to come.

After

Yui spilled out of the Hedge onto a barren lot were once his home had stood. His house was gone.

His Keeper had left behind a replacement. And OTHER Cory had not been loving at all. Yui's family was now dead. Burned away in the ashes of his past. Those weeks of searching were terrible for Yui. But the newspaper had recorded only half the tale. Yui's alter ego had never been charged. Eager to take back what his. Using the pet-name his sisters called him, Yui began his hunt.

Yui knocked on the door of a lonely trailer in the Arizona desert. Un-Cory answered. For a few moments all Yui could do was meet the impostor's eyes. They killer of his family. "Why?" All he could summon to say.

"Look at you." Said the fetch as he took a drag of his cigarette. "I knew you would come one day. But....I never thought you would be so pathetic." He was a Cory at age thirty plus. His shabby clothes and unkept hair all a mockery of the lithe and agile real Yui who had returned. "Pathetic."

"I hated them. I killed them. And there is nothing you can do about it. Not about those three bitches or the others." It was like an avalanche of horror.

"Others?" Yui stammered. "What others?"

"The other wenches, I buried half of them back in the yard." Un-Cory took another drag from his cigarette. "So are you here to kill me? I've been a bad boy you know. I've done bad things. And there is nothing you can do about it."

Yui stood there gapping. he had not expected this. Any of this.

"If your not going to kill me, get off my land." And with the door closed with a click of the lock.

Yui returned to his Motel room, juggling the tape recorder in his hand. It was over. He had no life to return to. Depressed he began to pack his bags. But he didn't get too far. A knock on his door stole his attention, opening it brought him an answer. The local Winter Court was in bad shape. Any new-comer to the Phoenix area was hotly pursued. They immediately offered to help Yui with his fetch problem, but for a price. For so long as it took for the Fetch to be dealt with. Yui was to be in service to the Winter Court.

And After

To Yui's bemusement, their answer was Justice. Through pulled strings and a few Pledged bribes. Un-Corey found himself on death row. And until his Execution. Yui was The Winter Court's. Not a bad trade. Yui received the best training to hone his gifts and studies in in new Contracts. Fate lead Yui to the Twilight Gleaners, who have a strong presence in Phoenix. Many seek answers in the second kidnapping capital of the World. Yui learned quickly how to read the threads of fate and tap the secrets of the future. Many times he found secrets he could never tell another.

The Violence in the Phoenix Freehold boiled over, Yui found himself treading dangerous waters. He took up the duty of a silent assassin. Always waiting for Fate's blessing before striking a foe of the terrible Outer Court that threatened the city. But the storm of Wryd fell hard and the King of Winter perished in misfortune. Still not released from his Pledge. Yui pressed on. He helped rally the surviving courtiers to safety in the desert. Yui longed to return to California. to be gone from the wretched desert and the dying Freehold.

Summer made a dying stand, Yui watched it from atop a cliff ridge with a band of Spring. He knew the out come, and watched it happen. There was no time to warn anyone. To Yui's shock, the general of Summer saw Yui as he fell. That look of betrayal still haunts Yui. The Freehold was pushed farther out of the city, Autumn was cut off and over whelmed, The Remnant of Winter huddles beneath the grace of the Spring Queen. The Fled and hide. Waiting For Winter to come, and with it bring the Winter Crown.

Yui just wished to be released from his oath and leave Pheonix to Fate.

And After Again

Fate granted his wish. Un-Corey was put to death. Yui was free to go. The Ferret disappeared into the darkness. The Phoenix Freehold would have to fend for itself.

Yui shoulders his bag in Sacramento. A relatively new city were all was peace. Here Yui could hide. Winter was strong here comparatively. Maybe at last he could find peace. Surely the Cage Bringer could never find him here. Perhaps it had forgotten him. Hopefully.
