[[Category:Information]]{{header|mta}}{{TOC right}}

This serves as a compiled list of active rules for Mage the Awakening, and Mage players venturing into other threads. These rules are a product of conversations between the STs and moderators, and a consideration of player suggestions.

These rules are a work in progress as we continually try to ensure that the game is fun for everyone, and play between different Splats is facilitated.
* The [[Rules|general rules of Edge of Darkness]] supersede Mage-specific rules.
* Before submitting a character is it is suggested to at least look over the [http://nwod.org/forum/showthread.php?28824 Character Creation] discussion on the forum.

{{Quote|Mage is play-testing '''signficant''' additions to the House Rules. Since they are still in testing, the rules have not been merged into this page. [http://nwod.org/forum/showthread.php?36087 Please review them here].}}

==Character Creation==
* See [[Character Creation for Mage]]

==Posting and Inactivity==
===Scenes===
Each Mage Character may be in five (5) concurrent Scenes.
* This total includes, Plots, Socials, Consilium, Path, and Order meetings.
* This '''does not''' include Comms or Shards
* Only one (1) Shard Scene is allowed at a time.
* Councilors, Provosts, Sentinels, Heralds are allowed an additional one (1) Scenes to fulfill their responsibilities
* [[Help:Tracker|Tracker]] and [[Help:Power Icons|Power Icons]] are used to monitor [[Scene]]s.

===Inactivity===
If a character goes 30 days without a post on the character or without a public post living room post indicating a delay in posting time, the character will be marked Inactive.
* Inactive characters may be reactivated if their players wrote them out of the threads they were in by themselves.
* If a character was dropped, it wholly up to the HST whether they can be re-activated.

===Signature / Minisheets===
'''Tracker''' and '''Power Icons''' will handle the bulk of your scene monitoring; however, players should include the following information in either his/her Signature Line or [[Mini Character Sheets|Mini Character Sheet]]:
* Any active Supernatural effects (Imbued Items, Spells, etc) which are not shown on Tracker.
* When in combat, please include [[Defense]], [[Armor]], and [[Speed]]
* Please review [http://nwod.org/forum/showthread.php?37260 this thread] for details on recording spells

==Magical Tools==
Each Character may have only one.

==Mage Armor and Mage Sight==
It's left open to the player whether they want to use the first or second edition version of those spells. If not specified, first edition is assumed. [http://nwod.org/forum/group.php?discussionid=1296&do=discuss Armor] and [http://nwod.org/forum/group.php?discussionid=1295&do=discuss Sight] are listed in the Mage group.

==Nimbus==
* A [[Nimbus]] may not meta-pose feeling in other characters.
* Nimbus effect radius as a function of [[Gnosis]]. So a G1 Mage had a Nimbus radius of 1 meter, whereas a G3 Mage had a radius of 3 meters. Any 'flare' was discernible regardless of Gnosis, but the actual effect was only felt in the radius.

==Resonance==
The appearance of [[Resonance]] has been house-ruled and defined, and should be read [[Resonance|here]].

==Scrutiny==
A character may scrutinize a target a number of [[Successive Attempts]] equal to his/her [[Gnosis]] per scene.
* Example: A Gnosis 1 character may throw their Scrutiny pool/e-action once per target per scene.
* Example: A Gnosis 3 character may throw their Scrutiny pool/e-action three times per target per scene.

==Wisdom==
* Please see [[Wisdom]] for details on how Wisdom is affected on EoD
* '''[[Meditation|Meditating]]''' ''does not'' give +1 to degeneration rolls.

==Expendables==
===Mana===
[[Mana]] expenditures are recorded with [[Help:Power Icons|Power Icons]].
'''Average Mana Pool'''
* Base [[Mana]] = The Character's [[Wisdom]] score
* Add Mana per dot of Private [[Hallow]] the Character has Access To
** Add 3 per if only 1 or 2 people draw from the Hallow
** Add 2 per if 3 or 4 people draw from the Hallow
** Add 1 per if 5 or 6 people draw from the Hallow
* '''Scouring''' for Mana is ''extremely'' painful and in Combat and Social Scenes will lead to a -1 penalty to their next action. If Scourging occurs again in the same scene, this penalty increases by 1, each time.

===Willpower===
Per WoD core, [[Willpower]] refreshes once a Story ends; otherwise, it's through four means:
* fulfilling your Virtue
* fulfilling your Vice
* small 'triumphs'
* a night of rest

Otherwise, how Willpower is tracked between scenes has been house-ruled:
Each Character starts with half their pool (rounded down, minimum 1), per scene, with no more tracking between Scenes or recovery per new Scene.

This should emphasize Willpower as a finite resource a bit more and be less of a headache to track.

==Resistance==
* All effects (Spells, Merits, etc) can be Resisted. If no Resistance is given, we'll craft an appropriate one.
* Supernatural Tolerance ([[Blood Potency]], [[Gnosis]], [[Wyrd]]) is always added to Resistance.

==Alchemy==
Alchemy via [[Matter]] has been extensively House Ruled. Refer to the [[Alchemy]] article.

==Skills==
* [[Skills|Skill]] improvement is limited to one dot per month.
* [[Skills|Skill]] improvement is capped at a value equal to [[Resolve]] + 2. This represents that the top tier of self improvement in a Skill will require higher-than average ability to focus one's Resolve.
:: If your Resolve is ●, a Skill cannot be improved beyond ●●●
:: If your Resolve is ●●, a Skill cannot be improved beyond ●●●●
:: A high Resolve rating (●●●, ●●●●, ●●●●●) will obviate the Mentor requirement for improving Skills.
* The following Skills have been House Ruled in some fashion:
:: [[Occult Skill]]

==Merits==
The following Mage specific Merits have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::House Ruled]] }}

The following Mage specific Merits have been '''Banned''':
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::Banned]] }}, [[Retainer]]

For a full listing of House-Ruled [[Merits]], see '''[[Merits]]'''. Mage is currently not using '''any''' Familiar or Retainer Merits.

==Legacies==
There are House Rules governing Legacies:
* See [[Legacy]]

The Legacy system has been completely reworked and House Ruled with the following changes.
Attainments as written are no more. Gone. They will be replaced by a 'global' Attainment system, and the prerequisites dropped except for Gnosis.

* 1st Attainment: The Mage gains +1 Spell Tolerance and +1 Active Spells. These spells must be from Ruling Arcana. As the Mage's Soul is refined, so too is it's capacity.

* 2nd Attainment: The Mage gains +1 to all Ruling spell dice pools (Improvised or Rote). The soul has been tempered, now it is forged into a more effective weapon against the Lie.

* 3rd Attainment: To Be Announced

* Additional Ruling

There is no more 'extra' Ruling Arcana. Gone. Legacy 'Ruling' Arcana are banished to simple fluff/suggestions of useful shit.

* Drawback

Refinement comes with a price. Much like a Vampire's Bloodline weakness, Legacies will come with a drawback. Whatever a Mage's Inferior Arcana, the matching Arcana by Path will also become Inferior, giving the Mage two Inferior Arcana. A slight adjustment has been made to account for the Moros overlap and Acanthus exclusions.

Acanthus: Forces ''and'' Prime

Mastigos: Matter ''and'' Time

Moros: Spirit ''and'' Life

Obrimos: Death ''and'' Fate

Thyrsus: Mind ''and'' Space

The following [[Legacies]] have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Legacies]] [[Category:Mage House Rules]]}}

The following [[Legacies]] have been Banned:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Legacies]] [[Category:Banned]]}}

==Cross-Venue==
The majority of Cross-venue on EoD holds to a No Reveal rule, which means that the characters cannot inform characters from other Splats or Supernatural Groups that they are Supernatural in one form or another. Currently, crossover is held primarily in City Shards. However, there will be an increase of inter-venue communication and interaction that will take place in the Main Forum (Through the Veils) and the Social Subforum (Awakening).

===City Shards===
A mage will not have access to the City Shards aspect of the site until they have met with either an [[Order]] head, the [[Hierarch]], or have found a recognized [[Cabal]]. Generally this means that you have to set up a scene with one of the above, and must be recognized as a member of the Awakened community or [[Consilium]] ([[Who's Who: Mage|Consilium Status]] 1) in Sacramento before you can play in the no reveal cross-venue area.

==XP and Equipment==
* If you start a scene and it is not already on your character sheet, you do not have it in that scene.
* Equipment buys can be done like XP buys, on your character sheet thread.
** If it is not on your character sheet do not assume you have it.
** Weapons and Vehicles especially
* Retroactive buying will not be allowed, as we want to enhance the "be prepared" model instead of the "buy yourself out of trouble" model

==Combat==
* Talking should be restricted to 1-3 syllables; any more (up to seven) will constitute an Action.

==Spells and Spellcasting==
===Spell Aspect===
[[Spell Aspect]] (whether a Spell is Covert or Vulgar) will now be solely determined by it's Proficiency level (dot rating). The actual effect of the spell is completely irrelevant -- it's going to be how much and how hard you push against the Lie that gives the Abyss a chance to seep through.
* ● Spells: Covert
* ●● Spells: Covert
* ●●● Spells: Vulgar -1 [[Paradox]] die
* ●●●● Spells: Vulgar
* ●●●●● Spells: Vulgar +1 [[Paradox]] die

===Ritual Casting===
* '''Extended casting''' dice roll limit is equal to a character's [[Gnosis]].
* '''Relinquishing''' a spell can only be done by paying the [[Willpower]] '''dot'''. Alternate methods/spells from [[Tome of the Mysteries]] are not allowed.

===Rotes===
* '''Rote''' dice pools are determined by a character's '''natural''' stats. [[Attributes]] or [[Skills]] altered by magic may not increase spell dice pools.
* '''Rote Factor Bonuses''' ([[Tome of the Mysteries]]) don't exist.
* '''[[Rote]]s''' can be learned by anyone, regardless of Order membership/Rote origin.

===Mind===
* [[Mind]] spells which affect (boost) Physical traits ([[Attributes]], [[Skills]]) are duplicated/changed/converted to [[Life]] spells. Life will be the go-to Arcana for the Physical category of traits.
* [[Mind]] spells which affect Social (boost) traits ([[Attributes]], [[Skills]]) are duplicated/changed/converted to [[Spirit]] spells. Spirit will be the go-to Arcana for the Social category of traits.
* These include, but are not limited to: [[Augment the Mind]], [[Augment Other Minds]], [[Supreme Augmentation]], [[Gain Skill]], [[Skill Mastery]], [[Willful Process]], and [[Triumphant Will]].

===House Ruled Spells===
The following Spells have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category: Spells]] [[Category: Mage House Rules]] }}

===Banned Spells===
The following Spells have been '''Banned''':
* {{#ask: [[Category: Spells]] [[Category: Banned]] }}

Aeolus:

{{header|mta}}{{Mage/Spells}}
* '''Cost:''' 1 additional [[Cost::Mana]]
* '''Prerequisite:''' [[Prerequisite::Space]] [[Space::2|{{dot2}}]] and/or [[Prerequisite::Time]] [[Time::2|{{dot2}}]]
Students of the Space Arcanum learn that distance is an illusion, a limit magic can overcome. By including the [[Space]] Arcanum in a spell, mages can extend the reach of their magic virtually anywhere in Creation.

Spells including a [[Space]] element (Space {{dot2}}) to increase range are called sympathetic spells, since they take advantage of what some mages call the Law of Sympathy: “Like produces like.” Sprinkling rain onto a map, scrying into a bowl of ink mixed with a drop of the subject’s blood, sticking pins into a puppet containing a lock of the subject’s hair — all of these are examples of sympathetic spells.

{{info}} It requires one additional [[Mana]] to cast a sympathetic spell.

{{info}} If the spell directly affects a target’s Pattern, the mage’s dots in the spell’s highest Arcanum must be one higher than normally required to cast the spell.

{{minus}} The mage loses his [[Defense]] while casting.

{{minus}} A sympathetic spell is always [[Vulgar]], even if the spell is normally [[Covert]].

{{minus}} The casting creates a sympathetic conduit between caster and target, allowing the target to direct spells against the caster — even if he does not have Space 2 — for as long as the sympathetic spell lasts.

===Temporal Sympathy===
Just as the [[Space]] Arcanum uses ties of sympathy to determine the ease or difficulty of making a connection with another place, being or thing, so does [[Time]] rely on esoteric ties. In order to use “temporal sympathy” when working with the past, present or future, simply apply the sympathetic modifiers for the [[Space]] Arcanum to Time spells.
Note: we're using the 2E rules for temporal sympathy.

===Targeting===
To cast a sympathetic spell, the mage must have at least 2 dots in Space and a [[Mana]] point must be spent. The stronger the connection between the mage and the target, the easier it is to include the target in the spell’s Imago. If the mage knows little or nothing about the target, it is hard to perceive it in his mind’s eye, making it difficult to build a sympathetic connection. This difficulty is represented with dice penalties. Instead of penalizing a spell for the distance involved (distance is an illusion), it is penalized for the vagueness of the connection to the target. The less a mage knows about the subject, the higher the penalty — the greater his sympathetic “distance” from the target.
: Note that these penalties (and those for [[Spell Factors]], p. 117) can exceed the usual maximum dice penalty of five dice. Awakened magic is a special circumstance that sometimes reduce beginning mages to dice pools consisting of only a chance die.

===True Names and Shadow Names===
When using sympathetic magic, it is best to know and speak (mentally, not necessarily out loud) the name of the target. If the target’s name is not known, it is hard to reach out to him through sympathy — the difficulty of connection is increased by two degrees (increasing the dice penalty). For this reason, mages often hide their real names from other mages, using only their shadow names, which elude sympathetic connection. See [[Mage The Awakening Sourcebook|MtA]] “Shadow Names,” p. 54.
* Connections can be made to animals, plants, objects and places without need of a name.

===Direct Pattern Spells===
Spells that actively work magic on a target, however, such as the classic “sticking a pin in a voodoo doll to cause pain,” require advanced Arcanum knowledge. '''The mage’s dots in the highest Arcanum used for the spell must be one higher than is normally required to cast the spell.''' This requirement does not affect the Space 2 component of the spell, which is the conjunctional Arcanum used to establish the sympathetic conduit. The requirement applies to the Arcanum used for the effect itself (or all Arcana used in an elaborate conjunctional effect).
* Spells that do not directly affect a target can be cast without the additional dot. These include scrying spells, where a scrying window allows a caster to observe a target or an area, '''but the spell itself does not affect the target’s Pattern'''.

===Casting Conduit===
'''Casting sympathetic magic opens a sympathetic conduit between caster and target, allowing a subject to cast spells back at the sympathetic caster without needing Space 2''' (although he still suffers the relevant penalties for his degree of connection to the caster). Opening a scrying window also creates a sympathetic conduit; if a mage on the other end knows the window is there (using [[Mage Sight]], or especially the Space 1 “[[Spatial Awareness]]” spell, although the scrying spell does not necessarily alert the mage to the window’s existence), he can direct spells through it at its creator on the other end (but not at any other target who did not participate in the sympathetic casting).
* The conduit lasts for as long as the sympathetic spell that created it.

===Examples===
'''Example''': ''[[Avis]] wants to communicate mentally with [[Star]]. She has no idea where Star is, so she must cast a sympathetic spell to reach him. Fortunately, she has a ring Star gave her for just such an occasion, containing a lock of his hair — an '''Intimate''' connection. Avis needs Space 2, Mind 3 to cast the spell, and the effort suffers a –2 penalty for the '''Intimate''' connection.''

: ''Avis’ Intimate connection is an '''Acquainted''' connection if she doesn’t know Star’s real name. Thankfully, she knows that Star's real name is his Welsh family name of Owain Rhys Glamorgan, and so maintains her '''Intimate''' connection''.

'''Example''': ''Later, Avis wants to communicate with [[Pepper]] mentally. Having met her only a couple times, Avis’ connection would normally be '''Acquainted''' (–6 dice). But she does not know Pepper's real name, only her shadow name. That means the degree of connection is worsened by two degrees, to '''Described''' (–10 dice).''

|The subject has not significantly changed; a person days later who has not changed physically, or hours after an injury, a street after hours of foot traffic or a building after days of habitation, a gun that has been fired.
|-
|<nowiki>- 6</nowiki><br><nowiki>- 8</nowiki> without True Name
|Acquainted
|You’re acquainted with the target. It might be a casual acquaintance, a co-worker you hardly know, or an item you held or used once.
|The subject has significantly changed; a mage before joining a Legacy, a person before a prolonged illness, an item that has been broken or built, a street after several businesses have changed, a building under new ownership.
|-
|<nowiki>- 8</nowiki><br><nowiki>- 10</nowiki> without True Name
|Encountered
|You have encountered the target briefly, such as a person you passed on the street or an item you touched once.
|The subject is vastly different; a mage before her Awakening, an item before being imbued, a different building on the same lot, a ruin when it was new.
|-
|<nowiki>- 10</nowiki><br><nowiki>- 12</nowiki> without True Name
|Described
|You have never encountered the target, but can describe it. You might know a person’s name or physical description, or what an object or place looks like.
|
|-
|<nowiki>N/A</nowiki>
|Unknown
|If you know nothing about the target, you cannot cast a sympathetic spell on it. Knowing that there is a rival mage in town is not enough to affect the mysterious figure from afar. You must at least know his name, description or location.
|Trying to peer into Cleopatra’s court while utterly without any factual knowledge or object of significance to that place and time.
|}
'''If the caster does not know the real name of a target, the difficulty of achieving a sympathetic connection is increased by two degrees on the chart. So, an Intimate connection would become an Acquainted connection.'''

[[Category:Information]]{{header|mta}}{{TOC right}}

{{Quote|Mage is play-testing '''signficant''' additions to the House Rules. Since they are still in testing, the rules have not been merged into this page. [http://nwod.org/forum/showthread.php?36087 Please review them here].}}

==Character Creation==
* See [[Character Creation for Mage]]

==Posting and Inactivity==
===Scenes===
* [[Help:Tracker|Tracker]] and [[Help:Power Icons|Power Icons]] are used to monitor [[Scene]]s.

===Inactivity===

===Signature / Minisheets===

==Magical Tools==
Each Character may have only one.

==Nimbus==

==Resonance==
The appearance of [[Resonance]] has been house-ruled and defined, and should be read [[Resonance|here]].

==Scrutiny==

==Wisdom==
* Please see [[Wisdom]] for details on how Wisdom is affected on EoD
* '''[[Meditation|Meditating]]''' ''does not'' give +1 to degeneration rolls.

==Expendables==
===Mana===

===Willpower===
Per WoD core, [[Willpower]] refreshes once a Story ends; otherwise, it's through four means:
* fulfilling your Virtue
* fulfilling your Vice
* small 'triumphs'
* a night of rest

==Resistance==
* All effects (Spells, Merits, etc) can be Resisted. If no Resistance is given, we'll craft an appropriate one.
* Supernatural Tolerance ([[Blood Potency]], [[Gnosis]], [[Wyrd]]) is always added to Resistance.

==Alchemy==
Alchemy via [[Matter]] has been extensively House Ruled. Refer to the [[Alchemy]] article.

==Skills==
:: [[Occult Skill]]

==Merits==
The following Mage specific Merits have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::House Ruled]] }}

The following Mage specific Merits have been '''Banned''':
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::Banned]] }}, [[Retainer]]

For a full listing of House-Ruled [[Merits]], see '''[[Merits]]'''. Mage is currently not using '''any''' Familiar or Retainer Merits.

==Legacies==
There are House Rules governing Legacies:
* See [[Legacy]]

* Additional Ruling

There is no more 'extra' Ruling Arcana. Gone. Legacy 'Ruling' Arcana are banished to simple fluff/suggestions of useful shit.

* Drawback

* {{#ask: [[Category:Legacies]] [[Category:Mage House Rules]]}}

The following [[Legacies]] have been Banned:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Legacies]] [[Category:Banned]]}}

==Cross-Venue==

===City Shards===

==XP and Equipment==

==Combat==
* Talking should be restricted to 1-3 syllables; any more (up to seven) will constitute an Action.

==Spells and Spellcasting==
===Spell Aspect===
* ● Spells: Covert
* ●● Spells: Covert
* ●●● Spells: Vulgar -1 [[Paradox]] die
* ●●●● Spells: Vulgar
* ●●●●● Spells: Vulgar +1 [[Paradox]] die

===Ritual Casting===

===Rotes===

===Mind===

===House Ruled Spells===
The following Spells have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category: Spells]] [[Category: Mage House Rules]] }}

{{Quote|Mage is play-testing '''signficant''' additions to the House Rules. Since they are still in testing, the rules have not been merged into this page. [http://nwod.org/forum/showthread.php?36087 Please review them here].}}

==Character Creation==
* See [[Character Creation for Mage]]

==Posting and Inactivity==
===Scenes===
* [[Help:Tracker|Tracker]] and [[Help:Power Icons|Power Icons]] are used to monitor [[Scene]]s.

===Inactivity===

===Signature / Minisheets===

==Magical Tools==
Each Character may have only one.

==Nimbus==

==Resonance==
The appearance of [[Resonance]] has been house-ruled and defined, and should be read [[Resonance|here]].

==Scrutiny==

==Wisdom==
* Please see [[Wisdom]] for details on how Wisdom is affected on EoD
* '''[[Meditation|Meditating]]''' ''does not'' give +1 to degeneration rolls.

==Expendables==
===Mana===

===Willpower===
Per WoD core, [[Willpower]] refreshes once a Story ends; otherwise, it's through four means:
* fulfilling your Virtue
* fulfilling your Vice
* small 'triumphs'
* a night of rest

==Resistance==
* All effects (Spells, Merits, etc) can be Resisted. If no Resistance is given, we'll craft an appropriate one.
* Supernatural Tolerance ([[Blood Potency]], [[Gnosis]], [[Wyrd]]) is always added to Resistance.

==Alchemy==
Alchemy via [[Matter]] has been extensively House Ruled. Refer to the [[Alchemy]] article.

==Skills==
* [[Skills|Skill]] improvement is limited to one dot per month.
* [[Skills|Skill]] improvement is capped at a value equal to [[Resolve]] + 2. This represents that the top tier of self improvement in a Skill will require higher-than average ability to focus one's Resolve.
:: [[Occult Skill]]

==Merits==
The following Mage specific Merits have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::House Ruled]] }}

The following Mage specific Merits have been '''Banned''':
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::Banned]] }}, [[Retainer]]

[[Category:Information]]{{header|mta}}{{TOC right}}

{{Quote|Mage is play-testing '''signficant''' additions to the House Rules. Since they are still in testing, the rules have not been merged into this page. [http://nwod.org/forum/showthread.php?36087 Please review them here].}}

==Character Creation==
* See [[Character Creation for Mage]]

==Posting and Inactivity==
===Scenes===
* [[Help:Tracker|Tracker]] and [[Help:Power Icons|Power Icons]] are used to monitor [[Scene]]s.

===Inactivity===

===Signature / Minisheets===

==Magical Tools==
Each Character may have only one.

==Nimbus==

==Resonance==
The appearance of [[Resonance]] has been house-ruled and defined, and should be read [[Resonance|here]].

==Scrutiny==

==Wisdom==
* Please see [[Wisdom]] for details on how Wisdom is affected on EoD
* '''[[Meditation|Meditating]]''' ''does not'' give +1 to degeneration rolls.

==Expendables==
===Mana===

===Willpower===
Per WoD core, [[Willpower]] refreshes once a Story ends; otherwise, it's through four means:
* fulfilling your Virtue
* fulfilling your Vice
* small 'triumphs'
* a night of rest

Willpower pools will not refresh every Scene. They will be a constant, and must be tracked in your '''Minisheet''' and '''Tracker'''. For every New Scene a character enters (which is not linked to another same-day Scene) the character adds 1 WP to their total. This is to simulate the night of rest. Otherwise, it can only be regained through Virtue/Vice & possible triumphant acts.
* If WillPower expenditures are not noted in '''Tracker''' they will be considered to not have been spent.
* Scene-hopping to abuse the system will be Not Good™.
* Rituals (Wards, Bans, Prepared Spells, etc) which are cast with a [[Duration]] less than a month will need to be re-cast and noted out of character, with this taken into account.
* Willpower expenditures are recorded with [[Help:Power Icons|Power Icons]].

==Resistance==
* All effects (Spells, Merits, etc) can be Resisted. If no Resistance is given, we'll craft an appropriate one.
* Supernatural Tolerance ([[Blood Potency]], [[Gnosis]], [[Wyrd]]) is always added to Resistance.

==Alchemy==
Alchemy via [[Matter]] has been extensively House Ruled. Refer to the [[Alchemy]] article.

==Skills==
:: [[Occult Skill]]

==Merits==
The following Mage specific Merits have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::House Ruled]] }}

The following Mage specific Merits have been '''Banned''':
* {{#ask: [[Category:Merits]] [[Character Type::Mage]] [[Permission::Banned]] }}, [[Retainer]]

For a full listing of House-Ruled [[Merits]], see '''[[Merits]]'''. Mage is currently not using '''any''' Familiar or Retainer Merits.

==Legacies==
There are House Rules governing Legacies:
* See [[Legacy]]

The following [[Legacies]] have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Legacies]] [[Category:Mage House Rules]]}}

The following [[Legacies]] have been Banned:
* {{#ask: [[Category:Legacies]] [[Category:Banned]]}}

==Cross-Venue==

===City Shards===

==XP and Equipment==

==Combat==
* Talking should be restricted to 1-3 syllables; any more (up to seven) will constitute an Action.

==Spells and Spellcasting==
===Spell Aspect===
* ● Spells: Covert
* ●● Spells: Covert
* ●●● Spells: Vulgar -1 [[Paradox]] die
* ●●●● Spells: Vulgar
* ●●●●● Spells: Vulgar +1 [[Paradox]] die

===Ritual Casting===

===Rotes===

===Mind===

===House Ruled Spells===
The following Spells have been House Ruled in some fashion:
* {{#ask: [[Category: Spells]] [[Category: Mage House Rules]] }}

===Banned Spells===
The following Spells have been '''Banned''':
* {{#ask: [[Category: Spells]] [[Category: Banned]] }}
Rosie's Roses is a small unassuming flower shop in one of the less busy streets of Sacramento. Wedged between two rather drab buildings it sticks out like a charming fleck of color: the window is decorated with four arrangements of flowers - an astute viewer could make out a losely seasonal theme in the colors and the decoration of the pieces, with the current season's piece being the most elaborate and prominent.
Painted centrally in a blueberry colored, elegant font was the shop's name with its motto beneath and slightly to the right: "Heartfelt gifts that fit."

A old looking wooden sign above the door echoed the name. The blueberry found itself in the freshly painted door and windowframe, gently harmonizing with the hanging pot of green plants hanging next to the entrance.

Once inside the homely atmosphere quickly embraces any visitor: the walls to the left and right are filled with lose flowers sorted by color, and in the back there's a small counter where people ordered and paid their custom arrangement or could chose from one of the few premade gifts.
In a more private corner are two soft chairs and a small table. They don't sell coffee or softdrinks there, but it provides the owner with a comfortable place to talk about the customer's visions and gives any visitor the possibility to sit down for a few minutes and leave the stressful day behind.

There is one door visible to everyone, leading to a small workspace/storage and an even smaller office meant for employees only.
The prices are moderate, but every customer can expect and open ear, individual consultation and as many revisions until a satisfactory result is handed over.

==Bio==
===Life before being taken===

Mason Wilken knew about pain for as long as he could remember. Being the only son of a deadbeat father and a mother who couldn't take the drug-fueled beatings anymore and ran away when he was five, he always knew that the way he was treated wasn't right or fair, but he quickly learned that it was easier to take what's being thrown at him than to argue or fight his dad.

When he was eleven his father woke him up in the middle of the night, dragged him outside and made Mason watch while he set fire to the crappy house they called a home. His dad saw a surefire way to cash in on the insurance. Mason just saw whatever of his youth was left go up in flames.

Not surprisingly, his father got himself jailed up shortly after that and Mason got passed around various foster homes and families. He kept his head down, vowing to earn the happiness he deserved and through hard work and diligence he finished high school, took the necessary tests and finally became a firefighter.

He married a co-worker and fostered a relationship built on respect and warmth. Together they had two kids and Mason vowed to always be a better father, a better husband and a better person that his dad ever was. While it wasn't easy, he never grew bitter or cynical - the pain, he figured, only gave him motivation to push on and gave him the desire to protect others from similar fates.

===Durance and Keeper===

One day while he was on duty he heard the distressed cry of a child inside a burning building. Looking for the source of the voice, he stumbled right into his Keeper to be. One second he was in a hallway, breaking down a door the next moment he found himself inside a burning room too big to logically fit the layout of the house.
In it's center stood a faceless entity, terribly beautiful and almost divine looking. Eight feathery wings sprouted from the chiseled male torso, bronze skin clad in spotless white robes and a corona of light around it's bald head.

There weren't any bells and whistles - Mason was simply captured and taken through the Hedge to his Keeper's castle. It was pristine and almost sterile in it's outer appearance (like the master of the house), but inside it more closely resembled a dungeon or what a sadistic sicko would think of when he imagined a castle: apart from a decadent ballroom the only rooms Mason ever saw were either torture chambers or cells.
His Keeper never talked or communicated in any other way with him. From the day he got taken every day was the same: his Keeper would look at Mason with it's featureless face for a few minutes and then the abuse started. The Fae was quite creative when it came to torture and so Mason got beaten, cut, burned and whatever else the Other fancied. At some point it would stop and Mason was left to suffer in his own sweat and blood, dropping in and out of consciousness until he was lucid enough to start over. He doesn't know how long he was kept there - time lost it's meaning in the windowless room he was locked in but his body began to change at some point. No longer did his flesh part so easily when whipped, no longer did his bones break when pummeled. There were times when truly the worst of the whole ordeal was the contemplating silence before the beating started.

But Mason got through hell once before and he vowed to not give up what he's been working for his whole life. With the memory of his family held dear in his mind, he endured. It was one time when his Keeper looked at him that Mason snapped. He realized that he never would be able to get his life back if he just took the abuse instead of standing up for himself and in an act of impulsive rage rather than controlled action he jumped at the Fae and thrashed it. The Keeper didn't put up any fight at all and when Mason came to his senses he stood over the lifeless form of his tormentor. Panicked he fled the room, fully anticipating some kind of guards to storm in and take him down. But the castle lay still, the silence felt oppressive and almost... expectant.
He got all the fight out of his system and so the only thing in his mind was to flee, make his way through the brambles and find his family again.

===Life after his escape===

Mason made it out and the local Freehold almost immediately found him and took care of him. He learned that three years passed since last he remembered, about his hideous appearance and about the new life he found himself thrown into. For a few weeks after his return, he mostly stayed with other Changelings and during those nights he had plenty of time to ponder over some questions nagging him in the back of his mind, even with his memory of the Durance fading already. Why was he being taken? Why was it so easy to overpower his Keeper and why did no one and nothing try to prevent his escape?
There was no satisfactory answer to those questions, but he never seemed to take his mind fully off of them.

Well, those questions and his family. The local Winter court gathered intelligence on the current situation of Mason's wife and children and so he learned about the impostor that took over his place. For months, he observed them from afar, never finding the guts to confront them or his Fetch.
One day, his Fetch confronted him. Said Mason's family was happy with the impostor. Said barging in now would only tear the family apart and traumatize the children. Basically, the Fetch played Mason like a fiddle and the tune was "you wanted to be better than your father". Mason took upon himself the largest amount of pain yet - he cut ties to his family and went back to square one. After some time trying to rebuild something else in his hometown he decided he needed more distance, a real fresh start. He struck a deal with the local Winter court and after some favours granted they offered him the documents to a new life, some money and the means to travel to his new home: Sacramento.

Mason's been through hell twice. Gerrit is going to make sure there won't be a third time.

==Mien and Mantle==
Mien:
Leathery scars, bruises and scaly scabs cover the whole hairless body. There is a certain symmetry to the disfigurements, the color of the visible skin ranging from pale pink to purple and dark red.

Mantle:
Contrast seem to grow slightly more stark around Gerrit, the crisp clearness of a winter morning.
