Traps
-
*Any triggered "machine" a character can use/make to defend themselves or harm a foe. Door knob bells, pitfall, bear trap, or Rube Goldberg device are all examples of traps.

-
*Are traps legal?

-
::The broad definition above means that the legality of traps will vary. The less lethal, the more legal. Opening a door that triggers a noisemaker is legal but a mashing spike plate would be illegal.

Illegal Access
 +
You need one of the following Skills or Merits.
 +
* Allies (Arms Dealers):  Access to weapons with Dots equal to damage or Armor rating -- so a 2 dot pistol would require Allies 2 (Arms Dealers)
 +
* Allies (Criminals):  Access to weapons with Dots equal to damage or Armor rating + 1 for out-of-sphere -- so a 2 dot pistol would require Allies 3 (Criminals)
 +
* Allies (Emergency Services/Police): Access to weapons with Dots equal to damage or Armor rating + 1 for risk to asset -- so a 2 dot pistol would require Allies 3 (Emergency Services/Police)
 +
* Skill (Streetwise):  Skill test with Penalty equal to damage or Armor rating + 5 difficulty with a Target Number equal to Damage x 3 -- so a 2 dot pistol would be Streetwise -7 and be an Extended action needing 6 Successes.
 +
* Caution! Illegal weapons may have a "history"! There's a pretty good chance they'll be defective - not many illegal weapons get the care and attention a serviceable weapon requires. The buy itself might turn out to be a set-up by the cops or a criminal. There's a lot of things that can go wrong with this sort of transaction (in a fun way or bad way ).
 +
* Note that Resources are still required to pay for the weapons, and illegal weapons add 1 dot to the cost.

Crafting
Crafting depends on a few things. Does your character have the knowledge, tools, resources, and the time to do so? A blacksmith at her forge making a folded steel katana is possible. A chef in his kitchen isn't going to be able to build a machine gun. So no, you can't go all Frank West. Successes required can vary though rule of thumb is currently add the size and durability of the object to be created then double it for the target number. More complex objects may call for double the equipment bonus to be included too. Moderators have final say in how many successes are needed so if in doubt ask a moderator.

Upgrading Equipment
-
*Can I pimp my ride?

-
::Yes there are rules for making modifications, cosmetic or performance, to automobiles and motorcycles. The rules can be found in both Armory and WoD Core.

-
*Can I have a magic ax?

-
::Yes. This is covered by the magical item merits in each venue. Check you venue's rulebooks for details.

-
*Can I upgrade my shield and ax?

-
::No. Some weapons and armor include alternate versions, with different stats, in their descriptions. This variance is made during item creation, not after. For example, a whip can be built to be normal (1B) or have lacerating hooks (0L). Attempting the change afterwards is likely to fail and destroy the whip.

-
*Can I upgrade my gun?

-
::You can accessorize. There are various gun attachments listed in WoD Core and Armory.

There is a FAQ/Discussion page for Equipment, Armor, and Weapons (Firearms, Melee, etc.).

Illegal Access

You need one of the following Skills or Merits.
