Isaiah Hanson was born in the outskirts of New Orleans, on the boundary between suburb and bayou. His parents were hardworking middle class people, both working long hours to afford a better life for their son. As a result, he spent a lot of time with his grandparents. Isaiah spent his nights with hard working, modernized parents and his days among his superstitious, religious extended family on what used to be a family farm--and still had a few animals, though the farm did not still produce enough to support itself. While his parents didn't raise him up to actually practice voodoo, he was definitely exposed to it from a young age, and has always been fascinated by its beliefs.
As he got older, Isaiah became interested in studies more and more, and in the academic environment. He did well in school, and became the first in his family to go to college. He had goals of one day becoming a doctor, and supported himself through college by working in an uncle's funeral home. However, one day when he was alone with a corpse, it began speaking to him. Startled, he turned to look just to see a ghostly image drift out the door. He followed it, and in a mystery play awakening, followed it and other ghostly signs throughout the town to find the name of the man who murdered the ghost. He Awoke as a Moros, and was soon found by a member of the Silver Ladder.
Gallows's secular ambitions soon took second place to the idea of rising through the ranks of this new supernatural heirarchy. Rather than attend medical school and become a practicing physician, he became a mortician and assisted in running the funeral home owned by his uncle. While his family didn't quite understand his change in ambitions, it served him well--he became a Lictor for the Silver Ladder after only a few years, and set to traveling around the region, coming back to New Orleans frequently between jobs. An unfortunate incident with some vampires in New Orleans convinced him he was ready to retire from the Lictor circuit, at least for a while, and he began traveling once more to see if there was anywhere a bit less undead he could settle. Gallows heard about the situation in Sacramento, and both his curiosity and ambition were peaked. It sounded like the sort of place a mage could make a name for himself, and the Silver Ladder in the area was underrepresented. Eager to see what sort of opportunities existed in Sacramento, Gallows relocated.
